Mr. Liu Zhen, Director of the dept. of Soil and Water Conservation, MWR, and Mr. Yu Xingjun, Director General of CWMP Project Steering Committee, on January 15, 2009 met with Mr. Adrian Davis, Director General of DFID Representative Office in China, they discussed on cooperation between China and Africa in soil and water conservation in the future. Relative staff from the dept. of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, MWR, the dept. of Soil and Water Conservation, MWR, and CWMP Project Steering Committee also attended the meeting. Mr. Adrian Davis congratulated China Watershed Management Project, he said that the project had made significant achievements with excellent sustainable watershed management models and satisfying dissemination results, especially that the communication with African countries had been welcomed strongly. He noted that DFID would cooperate with China to carry out more projects in developing countries, and would support following cooperation between China and Africa in various ways. Director Liu Zhen reclaimed that the Ministry of Water Resources had figured out the cooperation frame and would learn CWMP’s experiences in national projects actively, and he hope that with the help from DFID, relevant works could be implemented, including visiting Africa as soon as possible. Director Yu Xingjun firstly appreciated DFID’s great supports, he said that cooperation between China and Africa gained great support from MWR, which would actively promote further communication based on previous success, Mr. Yu wished that governments of both countries could contribute to environment management and poverty alleviation in Africa.
