CWMP Completion Workshop was held in Beijing on December 16, 2008. It was presided over by Mr. Yu Xingjun, Director General of the Project Steering Committee, and participants were mainly from the dept. of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, MWR, the dept. of Soil and Water Conservation, MWR, The International Economic & Technical Cooperation and Exchange Center, YRCC, Project Implementation Office, Gansu Provincial Project Management Office, relevant cities and counties, beneficial communities, and DFID. Representatives, from the International Economic & Technical Cooperation and Exchange Center, UMRB, Gansu Provincial Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, and the four pilot counties, introduced implementation in policy research, achievements promotion, monitoring and evaluation, pilot construction, etc, besides, farmer representatives also introduced participation and benefit in communities. Participants discussed a lot on project results and dissemination of the next phase. Administration section of MWR and the aiding agencies all highly praised what the project had achieved. They reached a consensus that due to the effective management of administrative sections and the positive participation of stakeholders, CWMP had reached its anticipated goal with emphasis on capacity building and dissemination, and its results were of high value of being and sustainable and being popularized. They wished further promotion and more benefits in the future. CWMP is an international cooperation that is funded by the governments of both China and Britain, and is supported by World Bank in management, then is implemented and organized by the Ministry of Water Resources. Its main objective is to improve the monitoring and evaluation system of Loess Plateau Watershed Rehabilitation Project, to explore watershed management models with focal points of poverty alleviation, and to be popularized in other similar projects in China and other countries.
